                                                       Stamplicity Retreat September 2007

Once again, the Stamplicity Retreat called to many of us to return for another weekend of fun and relaxation. Hats off to Pauline and Keith Bain, who along with staff members, have had a very difficult year in their personal lives, but who still managed to give us all a wonderful experience. This year 8 out of the 53 people who attended were part of SOS:  Diane, Josie, Margaret, Ruth, Val, Bonnie Jean, Linda and me.   While technically Josie and Linda weren’t part of SOS at the time, they did join at our first meeting so they are included.   Margaret had just flown in the night before from Iceland but was still her usual charming self in spite of the time difference she had endured.   Sure wish I had that staying power.   Five of us are friends from work and Josie made all of us a fabulous apron with “Rubber Mates” emblazoned across the front.  It has lots of pockets for us to put tools, etc. in and the custom made aprons were certainly a big hit at the retreat.

Brenda and Pauline conducted classes while Janice, along with American friends, Sandy and Bryan, offered us wonderful make n’ takes.  There was also a table set up where we could experiment on our own with new products and ideas.  Stamping on stamp board was most interesting to learn about in a class by Brenda.  Later, Bryan graciously gave of his time to show more techniques using this medium, to those interested.  Bryan creates wonderful stampscapes (as Marilyn and Dyke can attest from attending Stampfest) and is able to apply his knowledge to stamp board.  I learned from Sandy that the art of basic quilling isn’t that hard to do even for someone whose fingers don’t always handle small things very well.  With Pauline, I was introduced to Pergamano, a very pretty way to design a card. In spite of the trauma that Keith suffered this summer, he was his usual smiling self manning the store and being as helpful as he could.

As in the past, we had treats waiting for us in our rooms and at the tables when we gathered for meals.  Once again we played bingo to raise funds for breast cancer research.    Chocolate was always on our cropping table anytime we needed a quick burst of energy.   At the end of the retreat, we all went home with a door prize so no one was disappointed.

Val won a prize playing bingo just like she did last year.  Lucky duck!  She also won a prize for finding the most words in the word ‘Stamplicity”.  Can you believe a whopping 148 words?  Incredible!

In the crop room, the air just sizzled with so much creativity going on.   It was amazing walking around the room and seeing all these wonderful scrapbook layouts and cards for one to admire. Not only that, but their creators were most happy and willing to share their ideas.

It was a super weekend that started with eagerly greeting retreat friends from last year and ended with lots of warm hugs and a cheery “see you next year”!

Everyone received a door prize as well as other little surprises throughout the weekend.  Grace and Shawna dropped in just in time for Grace to draw the names for the prizes.  She did pretty well considering she got a little bored and started repeating the names Brenda hollered out while almost standing on her head.!!

One of my classes that I taught.  They were all filled up and we received many positive comments on all of them.

Brenda's class on Stampboard.  Big Hit!!!!! Lady on the right was from Ohio and Rita on the left was from Brantford.

Kim, in the background just fell in love with the Cricut as attendees were able to use it along with about 7 cartridges.  Saw her back there more than once having a good time.  Bonnie Jean from Toronto and Carole renewed their friendship as they had attended the last 2 retreats.

Good friends Carmen from London and Aline from Ancaster coming together for a weekend of creativity.

Joan, on the right, a new attendee this year, decided she would take all the classes offered so claimed her spot at the class table as she took one after the other classes.  Tired but pleased with all she had learned left quite happy with all her project.  Her hubby even joined her and the ladies for the Sat night Prime Rib supper.  This is Lilo's (lady on the left) second year at the retreat and enjoyed it just as much this year.

Here's other pictures Sandy Kerr forwarded to me.  Thanks so much Sandy..they turned out so well.  The following is a writeup that Sandy has composed to send to her stamping group.  Thanks Sandy for the great review of our retreat!!!!
