I can't believe September is right around the corner. I spent the last month of July sending out newsflashes and forgetting to send out my quarterly newsletter. Seems that I had a lot of information to update everyone on, hence my frequent flashes. This newsletter might not be quite as long and as full of information but I'll get back on track for the final newsletter. ON THE PERSONAL SIDE Well, life just speeds along as far as grandkids go as well. The London girls are growing like weeds, the 12 year old (Meghan) is taller than me (although that's not saying much is it) and the other 9 year old (Valerie) measures herself against me every time she's in my company. I figure by Christmas she'll be looking me in the eye. The Hamilton family is so crazy busy with soccer, summer hockey and baseball that we just don't see them very much. Mitchell is all boy and his idol is the Hulk, Hannah is into Hannah Montana and all girly things and little Mckenzie is 2 years old, just so adorable, with curly hair and she just loves to sing into a microphone. Rosie weighs as much as Mckenzie and is a year younger. I think Rosie has said to herself, "Grace has taken my toys for the last year and it's pay back time now that I can walk! " She has a different temperament and is just the opposite from Grace. The years ahead will be fun. Gracie reached a milestone...she no longer needs her training wheels!! Senior kindergarten for her in the fall. Keith and I just keep rolling along with the business as well as his part time job at Shoppers. Our garden looks lovely, our backyard and deck is very peaceful and we're enjoying our summer with friends and family. Now it's time for the important information. WHAT'S NEW IN THE STORE Seems that the summer weather and tending to gardens is top priority right now for scrapbookers at least. The summer weather doesn't stop cardmakers. What has been very popular is the new 3D's we keep getting in for card makers and of course Nestabilities by Spellbinders. As quick as I get them in, they go out the door. The display boards that Brenda put together are certainly showing the amazing images that are cut and embossed from these products. We have pre-ordered the ones they introduced at the retailer convention and they say by the end of August they might be here. Check our site to see the new designs and our website wizard Dan, has even put the measurements up for each of them. The fact that all of them, as well as most other diecut products from other companies work in the very affordable Cuttlebug is an added bonus. If you have a Cuttlebug, you know what an amazing little machine it is. A must for everyone. Stampscapes stamps still tend to be popular so we have an area well stocked with these. Since Provo Craft discontinued the Coluzzle product we have switched to carrying the Curvy Cutter by E K Success It's a nice system, just not as many templates. Do you have trouble making bows? An amazing product we carry in our store is called the Bow-Easy and that's just what it does. Makes 7 different size bows for cardmaking and scrapbooking..easy. It was a big hit at Bancroft and is again available in our store. Only costs $6.25 Sue has been teaching her Copic Marker class for the last couple of weeks. All students have been very pleased with Sue's teaching and have all taken advantage of the special offer of 36 markers for $144.00 if you take her class. (Regular price for 36 markers is $198.00.) Sue has made up a palette of the colours that work best together and you'll see what I mean if you take the class. Remember, Sue works Tues and Wed. so that's when her classes are. You decide which day you want to take the class....we're here for you. WHATS COMING IN THE FUTURE We have been waiting for the July retailer convention and the manufacturers to reveal their new lines. Oh brother, now to decide what paper lines to get in. While we're doing that, I thought I might as well have a sale. Here's the plan. Effective August 17th I will begin a Paper Blitz Sale for the public. From now until that date our 3 "S" members will be allowed to shop for the paper of their choice. All patterned paper will be on sale. Double-sided patterned paper will be...purchase 4 at the regular price of $1.15 and receive 2 free! That means you pay 76 cents for your 6 sheets of paper. Single-sided paper is the same deal....purchase 4 at regular price of $ .85 and receive 2 free. You pay 56 cents for your 6 sheets of paper! We have some lovely papers on our shelves but we need to make room for the new ones. As well, of course, we are looking at the Christmas lines from many of the stamp companies such as Hero Arts, Stampendous, Rosewood Stamps, Lockhart Stamp Company, Stamping Bella, Penny Black, My Favourite Stamps, Verses, Northwoods, Hanna stamps, Magnolia, My Sentiments Exactly, Magenta as well as others. Hero Arts, Stampendous and Penny Black are on their way as I write this. More Dazzle stickers by Hot off the Press (beautiful snowflakes) as well as the paper Bow template are on their way. People are asking for a larger variety of verse stamps and a huge selection will be here in time for our Spring & Fall Fling. Don't forget to check our site or drop into the store to see our sweet deals for the next couple months. August is My Favourite Things stamp line, House Mouse Stamps in September and Clip It up Organizer for October. I was told that the new Cuttlebug folders and dies would not be available till late Sept. Well guess what, they are on their way. I have ordered quite a few of each design but people have pre-ordered their favourites so don't hesitate to order yours. Knowing Provo it could be awhile before I get a second order in. Remember 2 years ago when all these folders came in and then it took forever to get more? They haven't put out any Christmas ones yet, I wonder what's up with that!! Just found out what Provo Craft has been up to for the last 7 months. They now have out a new innovative product called the "Gypsy". Check it out on their website.. www.provocraft.com. I would be interested in hearing your comments on it. I can certainly order this product for you if you just "have to have it". My Spring & Fall Fling is just about full. There is still some openings for Sunday September 13th but Saturday is all Full. As well, Bryan's Stampscapes classes are now all full and I have promised him I won't beg him to take just 1 more. Check out my site or visit our store to get all the details of this event. You'll see something new on the home page in the near future. Actually Dan, is always doing something to improve my site. For example, check out the home page and when you get to the paragraph when I write about Spellbinders you will see a bar that you can click on to take you right to the new products page. Dan did a great job putting all 46 of the newest spellbinders with full description as well as their measurements on the page. Will certainly help you determine what size the dies are. Also my intention is to give you a description of how each card is made when you are looking at the Inspiring scrapping and stamping pages. When the site crashed it has taken (seems) forever to get it back to the way Dan and I want it. With that goal almost there, I can now take my time and give a little more detail to the explanation of the samples. As well, I intend to insert a coupon for savings etc on the home page. Dan has assured me he can do that and that you can just print the coupon to bring into the store for your specials or offers. This will be a lot of fun as I have some great initiatives planned. Will probably have a different coupon on a monthly basis.
Time to get your favourite refreshment and sit down to relax with a little light reading!!!
As I compose this, there is only 4 more sleeps till a vacation down to Myrtle Beach with our good friends. We got together yesterday and had time to look at the site of where we are staying. Seven pools, palm trees everywhere, balcony with ocean view, miniature golf, a lazy river and a bar by the pool. What more can you ask for!!! I promised Keith I wouldn't take a scrapbook or stamping magazine. Didn't say that I wouldn't try and find a store though....just to see what other stores are carrying. Going to take a cross stitch project with me. Rosie is almost a year old and I still don't have a picture done for her wall of her birth details. We get along so well with Joan and Rollie and share a lot of laughs so it will be a blast!!! When we come back it will almost be Rosie's birthday so we will be getting ready for a big party. A little story about Gracie. She was playing at our house with a friend and was playing house. She was the mom and her friend was the daughter. As her friend just had a baby sister and of course Grace has Rosie it was natural to bring a dolly in the picture as the baby. I saw Grace sitting there hugging her baby and asked her what was wrong. She said quote "Nothing I'm just breast feeding the baby" unquote. How can you keep a straight face after that comment??? Times sure have changed haven't they!!
Not really new in the store but I hope everyone has gone into my site and seen all the work that Dan has done. Everything is consistent and the pictures come up so nicely. If you haven't yet please take the time to check it out.
We've had a big sale the last 3 weeks and it's cleared out a lot of merchandise which will make room for new items. More Crafters Companions will be arriving again soon as the 12. I brought back from the California show were all sold. The video that was included with this tool was amazing and once customers could see all you can do with it, it sold itself. Also the "Rock a Block" tool is great for eliminating any mistake that you might make with ink marks using the clear stamps. More of them are on the way as well.
A relatively new tool is the "Sound-Easy". To appreciate what this tool can do you really have to go into their website and see the video of how this works. Check out We think it is an amazing product if you do scrapbooking of children, heritage, trips, special events such as anniversaries.
Stampendous has brought out a new line of stamps and we have them in our store. They are called Shape Shifters and are just way too much fun. We now have a new class using these stamps. Come play with a Funny Bunny!!!
Scrapbook papers have arrived from Reminisce, Sassafras Lass and Making Memories.
The new Spellbinders Nestabilities should be arriving in the next couple of days.
We have 21 colours of Flower Soft now available that is great as an embellishment for card making. Check out the Flower Soft class on our website to see what we have done with this new product.
We have some new classes that are now available so check out the site to see the samples of...
FANCIFUL HERO ART CARDS
SHAKING AND SLIDING CARDS
WHIMSICAL HERO ART CARDS
101 WAYS TO USE A FUNNY BUNNY
POP UP CARDS
More scrapbook papers from such companies as Bo Bunny, Making Memories, Mill Hill, My Little Yellow Bicycle, Kaiser, Creative Imaginations and others. "Hot Off The Press" has new 3D Class and Peel Stickers that are amazing. I saw them in California. New 3D pre-punched sheets for making cards have already arrived with more to come. A couple of new stamp companies are on the horizon and new sets from Inkadinkadoo and Penny Black. Customers just can't get enough of these lines as well as the House Mouse stamps. Stampscapes has now made available unmounted word stamps to co-ordinate with their scenery stamps. Of course, I will be getting them in within the next couple weeks. I will have them for the Kitchener convention. New products that were introduced at the California show are just now becoming available so we will be researching them again to see what our first priority will be. I should expand on a great weekend event which is just around the corner. Scrapfest 2009 will be happening on April 18th. Stamplicity will be there with a booth as well as 45 other vendors. We will be bringing our friends, Bryan and Sandy. Bryan will be doing a make and take on the Stampscapes line so you will be in for a real treat if you are attending this event. Check out this site for all the details. www.scrapfest.ca Details of our Spring & Fall Fling will follow in a newsflash once I return from my vacation. I hope to get an advance letter out to past attendees before I leave so that they have a chance to sign up first. Many attendees last year expressed an interest that they want to attend the 2009 retreat.
Another year ahead of us!! I tell myself not to make News Year
resolutions as I just somehow can't keep them but made a couple
anyhow. So far not bad but it is only Jan 8th!!! The holidays were
nice although sad without Mom and Dad this year. Thank goodness for
the grandkids!!!
Our friends, Bryan and Sandy Hann managed to fly from New York City
to join our News Year Party so that was an added bonus. Had a great
day with the Bain side for our Christmas get-together. A little
crazy with 7 grandkids, but that's the best part of the day, just
being together!!
Starting the New Year, Shawna, my daughter, went back to work 2 days
a week and Keith and I are taking the 2 girls for just a day. We had
that day yesterday and now that Rosemary is crawling and pulling
herself up to couches andcoffee tables there wasn't much time to sit
down.
At one point Keith asked me "Doesn't her little legs get tired
standing there for an hour???"
We spent the day amusing Grace and keeping Rosemary away from all
the things that she was trying to get her hands on. I'm sure you all
have the picture now. It was wonderful!! These little ones are
keeping us young. We only feel old when we look out the window and
see that it's snowing again. There was a time that we welcomed the
snow to play in. It's going to be a long winter so let's get
into talking about keeping our hobby front and centre during these
cold winter months. It's time to enter the world of Stamplicity
again....
We have some new initiatives starting in the New Year involving scrapbooking!!!
Every month Brenda will introduce a scrapbook kit that can be pre-ordered and available the following month. This kit once received, can become a class with Brenda for an extra $10.00 or you can just take the kit and complete it yourself. Instructions will be provided in the kit. We will have the monthly completed pages on the site and on the "BRIGHT IDEA" wall in the store. Most of you know how creative Brenda is. I'm sure you'll be excited and eager to become involved in this program.
Everyone loves little specialty albums but are hesitant to attempt these wonderful keepsakes. Well we have made it easy for you by providing a kit that takes the guess work out and provides you with ALL the materials and step by step instruction. These albums make great gifts for loved ones or makes a great conversation piece for your coffee table. We will offer a different album each quarter beginning in January. Pre-order your kit and then start scrapping!!
January - BO BUNNY Family Word Album - $39.75
What a wonderful keepsake to honour family.
Kit includes:
Taking pre-orders for the Month of January. Classes will be available to guide you through your album if needed for an additional $10.00
We're making a few changes, deleting some, adding others and this will probably be an ongoing thing especially with the new products I'll be investigating at the Retailer Convention in California. Yep, I'm going to CHA at the end of January. It's always exciting to look forward to seeing what paper and stamp companies will be bringing out for 2009. Many booths offer make and takes on their new products and designs so I'll be bringing back lots of ideas and information to share with all of you. I'll try to bring back some nice weather....at least some sunshine.
Copic markers are becoming a popular product on the market right now. We have investigated them and Sue is very anxious to pursue this by taking a day long course to become a registered teacher. Sue is certainly the one to do that as she has been taking classes for a few years now in painting and has become very proficient at it. You should see her work as she has a natural talent for colour blending etc. Stay tuned for a new class in this area with these wonderful Copic Alcohol Based Markers.
The last few years I have held a Super Bowl Party for my 3 "S" members on the Sunday of the Football Super Bowl. We don't watch the game but the ladies enjoy some time with each other, talking about their hobby, having some pizza and wings and entering some contests. I have decided to postpone this event due to the time of year and the uncertainty of the weather. Instead we will host a "Spring Fling" in April for all our 3 "S" members. One thing we will be doing at our event is allowing everyone to bring the treasures they are finally deciding to part with and have a garage sale. Invitations will be sent out to all our members once we decide a date. In the meantime, why not start a spring cleaning of your inventory and put away items you are ready to pass on!!
That's hard to say until I come back from California. We have placed an order with Hero Arts from their new 2009 catalog. Valentines is just around the corner so you can expect to see new designs for that celebration. We have new wedding invitation samples in the store for those brides that want to personalize their own wedding invites. All of us at the store can help you find just the right colour in papers, cardstock etc to put together very original wedding invites, favours, shower invites, thank you cards, programs etc. Let us help you keep your wedding affordable in this area!!! Cutsy is certainly gaining popularity again (everything goes in cycles). Look for stamps that "just make you smile" on the shelves in the near future.
In the meantime Stamplicity currently has a sale in the store. All Christmas scrapbooking papers, stamps and other items are on for 25% discount. There is an area of the store that we continually add items to that are either 25% or 50% discounted. Zig markers are all on sale, some Cuttlebug products, Cricut cartridges and many other products.
Brenda and I are working on putting together a class or two for the younger generation for March break. Stay tuned for news on that.
I have changed a few pages due to popularity of products, new classes and programs, so be sure to check out Sweet deals for 2009, Brenda's Bright Ideas, Stampscapes, Birthday parties and 2009 programs. There is lots of new customer projects always being put on the site as well as new ideas from stamping and scrapbooking so check that out as well. Also check out the deals for Feb and March, they are really sweet!
No way can it be mid October already!!!! I started my Christmas shopping early this year so if I can get my act together regarding my cards I'll be in good shape. All is well at the Luey house. Rosemary is almost 5 months and is giggling now, holds her head up fine, never stays on her back anymore and is eating some baby food. (cereal, bananas etc) Shawna is just trying to wean her off the nursing....taking the bottle very well. Gracie loves her to pieces, she smiles at Keith all the time...he certainly has the touch. We get them once a week to give Shawna time to catch up on some sleep. Rosie is up half the night, not fussy, just not sleepy, talks in her crib for an hour before nodding off again and of course Shawna doesn't sleep just listening to her...she'll do this a couple times a night...little bum. Grace is in JK and lovin' it. Talks likes a 10 year old and is a real chatterbox. Nothing really exciting on the personal side. Might as well get into the good stuff that everyone likes to hear about.
Things have settled down a little in my life with the Spring & Fall Fling over with so now it's time to deal with my friend's inventory that has invaded my home!!! As most of you know from conversations and newsflashes I had hoped to obtain the store down the street from my store to set up all Julie's products for a week or 2 until I could get rid of it. Well, that was not to be as the owner informed me last Thursday that she has rented it. So plan "B" will be to first invite our 3 "S" members to an advance sale which will actually be held at my house from Sunday Oct 12th to Friday the 17th. What we have to insist on is cash only for any sale made and ONLY 3 "S" members are invited to the house. Regular customers will have the opportunity to shop at the store in the workshop when we bring it to the store for Oct 18th. On that
weekend we will be open 10 to 5 on the Sat., 12 to 4 on the Sunday (19th) and will have regular store hours for the next couple weeks until all inventory is depleted. This of course will limit any classes as there will be no room in the workshop. I am sure that the quantity of patterned paper available to purchase
is at least as much as I have currently in my store. With that in mind I will be selling paper in quantities of 25's in pre-packaged bundles at amazing prices. You will be able to view what you are purchasing but the papers in the packages cannot be switched. They will be mostly packaged by company for example SEI., Daisy D, etc. This is the only way we feel it is a win win for both customers and ourselves.
To summarize what is available at this sale....some 8 1/2 X 11
cardstock in packages, oodles and oodles of 12 x12 patterned papers, stamps, ink pads, lots of packaged embellishments eg making memories etc., polymer clay, tools, rolls and rolls of stickers and other products. Anything sold of course cannot be returned or exchanged. It will certainly be worth your time to check it all out as things will be sold at amazing prices as Julie doesn't want it back and I have no room for it!!!!!!!
Unfortunately the Oshawa convention was cancelled due to a lack of vendors. Sorry to the ladies who look forward to that event. I was going to be there!!!!
The London Expo was a big hit and our make and take was working with the Stampscape line of stamps. Very popular and with that in mind I have just gotten in a wonderful selection of these stamps. We were finally able to get Bryan Hann to fly in to teach 4 classes at our Spring & Fall Fling. Many ladies from around the Peninsula are either driving down or asking us to mail an order to them. Check out our Inspiring Scrapping Idea Page on the website www.stamplicity.com and you'll see what Brenda did with 2 double scrapbooking pages. You can do just about anything with these stamps.
I have a lady interested in the Zutter personal binding System. This system punches and binds books etc and would sell for $86.25. I would like to order one for this lady but I would have to purchase 3 from the company (that is their minimum) I would gladly place an order if I knew I could sell the other two, therefore I would like to know if anyone is interested in purchasing one and would put a deposit down as security. If you would like to know further about this tool you can go to their website www.binditall.com and check out their Bind-it-all v2.0
There has been a big increase in the demand for quilling products and even more so since Brenda offered classes at our retreat. With this in mind we now have a great selection of tools, books and quilling kits. The great thing about quilling designs is once completed they can adorn any scrapbook page and will not flatten when the album is closed. You can get kits on wedding, alpha., letters, boys, girls, animals, bugs, flowers, Christmas and the list goes on and on. Check out the site and come visit us for a class or just a demo as it's a very easy technique.
Christmas is coming very quickly so we have been stocking up on stamps for you to make your cards with. We have a great variety of clear and wood mount stamps from companies like Hero Arts, Stampendous, Penny Black, Inkadinkadoo, Artful Stamper and others.
Of course, it goes without saying that it is an ongoing challenge to keep Cuttlebug products in stock, but as many of my customers will vouch to we've been doing a great job and the hooks are once again full of your favourite embossing folders and cut and emboss dies. If we don't have it we can get it in fairly quick but do add that patience sometimes is required as even Provo Craft has to wait for the boat from China. Who would have thought this tool would take off and be as popular as it is. Our prices are very good and customers are always telling me I have the latest which even the big chains don't have. By the way, we do mail orders.
Craft Hobby Association (CHA), a retailer convention, took place in July and a week ago I finally got the last order I placed from Prima Marketing. It was a struggle to get an order from Kaiser as well but their scrapbook papers and chip board books are so popular that it was worth the wait. I will be placing another order soon. My Little Yellow Bicycle's papers are great and we can't wait to get their Christmas line in. It's still in production as far as I know but will be arriving soon.
Another company that has been slow to arrive was Pinecone Press and we just got the rest of it last week as well. They have great papers, calendars, book kits and different products. They have been very popular as well.
3D popup images now come in pre cut sheets and metallic designs. Truly, they make beautiful cards. If you check out www.ecstasy crafts.com you can see all their products as well as Pergamano products. Pergamano is my favourite technique and I always try to get a card made for someone's birthday or anniversary.
Well, there is alot of options out there, as we investigated many companies while in Chicago this past July. We have about 10 catalogs that are on 'our to be ordered' list. I few of them are Carolee Creations, Bo Bunny and Moxie. Christmas papers will be front and center for the next couple months. The Rubber Stamp Tapestry line is always coming out with amazing new sets. Inkadinkadoo stamps are great and Verses have some great inside card verses that we have to have on the shelves. The House
Mouse stamp line is taking centre stage in the cutsy department which is why it is our Stamp of the Month for November. Check it out on the site. Hero Arts is the feature Stamp of the Month for this month so we'll be getting some more images in mid November.
The demo deal for this month is a beautiful stamping tote and next month is a Purple Cow cutter. We are having alot of fun with Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel and will be demoing it on a regular basis. Satin embossing powders from Stampendous can create a lovely card and why not get into a lovely embosseddesign as part of your Christmas card.
We continue to get in our new line of Core-dination cardstock that has proven to be very unique when embossed with the Cuttlebug and lightly sanded.
Copic Alcohol Markers are in high demand right now and the girls at the store enjoy working with Prima Marketing transparencies as well as other non porous surfaces. They will probably be ordered on a demand basis. Anyone who orders fromme knows I do my best to get requested products as quickly as I can. Copic Markers colour the class and Peel stickers extremely well. I love them even more than the Alcohol Inks.
We will be keeping our ears and eyes open for other new products and papers. There are lots of choices of companies to pursue. My girls are making sure I stay on top of things and I really trust their judgement.
It's not new but I mention every year about our Christmas wish list. Here's how it works....Come in and make out your wish list. We keep it on file and if someone comes in to shop for a gift for you and purchases something from your list they receive a 10% discount on that item(s). It's a win/win/win as they get a deal, you get what you wished for and Stamplicity gets the sale. Let your friends and family know how easy it can be to shop for you.
Christmas classes are being put together so if you are interested call the store to book something for you and your friends. In the near future there will be lots of samples in the store as well.
I know this newsletter is a little late but as we have been busy with the Bancroft convention and the Chicago Retailers Convention I know you all understand what 'busy' means. I figured I better get this out tonight as tomorrow Keith and I babysit Rosemary till Sunday. Shawna and Mark are going to Chicago for the weekend and Grace is going to Mark's parents so Shawna figured Iwould be able to focus on just the baby. I have passed the test of having her for 2 complete nights so although she doesn't know how she can leave her so long is is prepared to try it. I have all my instructions!!!!! We are looking forward to it as she is taking interest in things now and gives us some pretty big smiles. Grace is handling the new baby thing very well and really dotes on her although she gets a little rough playing with her sometimes. Doesn't seem to be any jealously so that's a good thing. Doesn't seem possible Grace goes to junior kindergarden in the fall. She is ready for it though. We are very busy at the store and Keith has more hours at Shoppers for the summer so it fills our days. We are enjoying the back deck even though the heat is so bad this summer. I have lots to tell you about the Chicago show, so enough about my family and I and let's talk about what's going on at Stamplicity....
The store is fully stock now and we have a table once again with all new sale items. H20 twinkles, glimmer mist, elements from Art Institute, 12 X 12 scrapbook window pages from Die Cuts with a View are just a few of the items that are on for 25% discount. We recently got in class and peel stickers from 2 new companies and they are amazing. Check out the products page on the site www.stamplicity.com to see our new 3D class and peels and the cards you can make with them. They are flying off the shelves. There are other very unique class and peels you're sure to love. Many new 3D sheets with some amazing designs are brand new as well. Christmas stamps are starting to arrive from Inkadinkadoo and we have other companies we should be getting in the near future. Our stamps of the month for August are featuring Christmas clear stamps and are beautiful. Check the site to see the great deal you have the opportunity of purchasing. You have a choice once again. As well the Demo deal for this month (July)is your choice of a Nestabilities set, regular price of $29.95 for only $19.95. We have some new glitter papers for scrapbooking or card making. New Hero Art, Rubber Stamp Tapestryand Penny Black stamps fill our shelves and we
This section is going to take up alot of space as we had an amazing time in Chicago and have much to let you know about orders placed and companies we want to pursue for the balance of 2008. Thank goodness all the driving time was uneventful other then the construction we went through on each major highway. Chicago at rush Drivingthere really took all day and once we got to Chicago we thought we would go to the big Archivers store. Of course,it took a couple hours before we left that store and had supper at the Olive Garden so it was a long day. I guess to begin with, I was right, the girls were in awe of the show on Friday!!! Of 800 booths on the floor, I would think 3/4 of them were scrapbooking or cardmaking vendors. For Friday, I made a list of booths I wanted the girls to check out for me so I could focus on other issues and they did their job well. Friday night I got a list of their 5 favourite vendors and Saturday we went back to those booths plus other booths of vendors I currently deal with to see what's new and exciting. It was a real scramble come late afternoon Sat. to get a few orders placed before the show closed for the day at 5. Wedid get a few orders placed (it was a hard choice) and left Chicago Sat night to get a few hours driving time in so the ride home Sunday wouldn't be so long. The make and takes we did were all amazing and you can check them out on the site under special events.. Provo Craft haddraws every day at three different times and to really get Brenda and Sue pumped, Sue won a new Disney Cricut cartridge at the first draw on Friday. To say we had fun and returned home tired but pleased with the weekend is to put it mildly. The girls were a great help to me and as I trust their opinions it made the event that must easier to get through. So now I think you would like to know just what vendors impressed us so much. In what order we will place orders depends on our needs in the store. Right now we are
These are 3 companies I have not ordered before but were at the top of our list!!!!! Wait till you see Following close behind but not yet ordered are...
Of course, there are many more products that we will be pursuing from distributors and a few of them "The Slice" ishopefully coming out in October from Making Memories http://www.makingmemories.comThis machine has blown away Sue and Brenda and even now they haven't stopped bugging me about getting this in. It's a cool machine and has been talked about for a couple months but still not yet available. (I think these companies do this on purpose to get everyone pumped up about the product) We did a make and take with it and I must admit it is very cool and would be just great for cardmakers. Stay tuned for future news.
Copic Markers are an alcohol based marker that is great to colour on non-porous surfaces like the paintable transparencies and to colour in stamp images. Sue was really taken with them as that is her specialty. They will compliment the
Oh brother, you should see what Provo Craft is bringing out. 12 new Cricut Cartridges, a stronger blade for the Cricut to cut chipboard and other mediums, material to make your own embossing folders and clear stamps. We couldn't believe it. Their products are truly amazing and seeing what they have lined up confirms to me that they have the best cutting and embossing machines. I am glad I am carrying this product. Check out the Tinkerbell make and take on.
We learned other things with Alcohol Inks as well as Distress inks from the one and only Tim Holtz. Yes, Brenda got a picture of him demoing and was our photographer taking 240 pictures of just about everything. We are going to have such fun doing a scrapbook album of our weekend. There's probably some crazy
Our next big event will be Canal Days in Port Colborne on Aug. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. This is an annual fun filled event in our city and they close the downtown streets to allow people to enjoy all the events. There is kite flying at the park as well as other events, many crafters line West Street, the downtown stores stay open later (including Stamplicity) and many bands perform day and night on the long weekend. We get many visiting Port for this event, come and join in on the fun. Check out http://city.portcolborne.on.ca for other details.
After that it will be full steam ahead for preparation on our Spring & Fall Fling. We found some great make and takes that the 58 attendees will have fun doing. Shawna wants to be apart of it this year since she is off on maternity leave so she is planning a make and take as well. Our vendors are being very generous with prizes so ladies, you can start getting excited about your weekend. We have some fun times ahead for you. For those of you that have registered you will receive your letters outlining more details shortly after August 1st. I am assigning Keith that job. There is much more I could write about but I know your time is precious so I'll leave you with some tips and techniques to end the newsletter.
I can finally say things have calmed down in my life!!! Mom's house has sold and closed. We were able to get rid of all the large furniture, her car and the balance of
smaller household items we hope will be dealt with at a spring garage sale. I will send out a newsflash when that date is arranged as I know many people love a garage sale. My attic is full of lamps, kitchen items, cups and saucers, blankets, etc.
Life is returning to normal but I can still come home and say to Keith, "Did mom call" some things are just automatic.
Unless something unforeseen happens the next email contact from me will be to announce that I'm a nana again. Shawna is doing well and is due May 1st. She
hopes to have a natural birth this time and has a mid-wife. I would love to see my grandchild born so we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Spring is here and with that comes plans to attend conventions and have some special events at the store. So lets talk about..
Bryan and Sandy came to visit us last weekend and brought with them all the new catalogs they picked up for me from the CHA convention in January. More decisions to be made now as the last month's sale (which is still happening) has left space for new papers and products. We're moving things around again to better display the new items that will be arriving. It's a neverending job to ensure all the new Cuttlebug products are in the store(another large shipment will be here by Fri Apr. 11th) for the greatdemand that's out there.
People have been pleasantly surprised when they see I have a good supply but are also willing to order what they want if it's not in stock. Customers like to know I can order almost anything for them, will stand behind my products and that all the staff in the store will demo any tool or product.
In this everchanging industry and with the big chains carrying scrapbook supplies we have re-evaluated what Stamplicity will be carrying in the future. For example, if you want a unique or specific style or themed scrapbook album, you know you can come into our store, we will hunt it down and make every effort to order it as quicly as possible for you. The chains are carrying stickers now so our priority is not in that area unless once again it is something unique. You won't find what we have in stamping and scrapbooking supplies in the chain stores. You won't find the service and knowledge that you get in our store in the chains.
Classes will be unique and different. If you want a certain class on a certain date and a time convenient to you, just ask. If our workshop is open and
the teacher is working then it might well be a one on one class. We are here for you, that's what customer service is all about. We know our products and can give you many ideas or suggestions on what to do with something new you are buying.
Although clear and unmounted stamps seem to be taking over the stamping industry we are here for those veteran stampers who prefer wood mount. We will continue to carry Penny Black, Stampscapes, Outlines and other companies that are unique to the stamping world. Stampers and scrapbookers who prefer the clear stamps will find a great
variety of sets at the store as we stock up on new designs. And then there is the paper selection and new companies!!!
Our Stamp of the Month will continue for the balance of the year and our Demo Deals are making people very happy. The demos are usually on a new tool that people hesitate to pay full price for in case they might not use it. We can demo other products in the store and have the Cricut and Cuttlebug always set up ready to show our customers or even let them give it a try.
Oh boy, the list is really too long and we are still searching through catalogs. I am trying to pursue other International companies for different products I've never carried before. Cardmakers are going to be very excited on what we will be bringing in if it all works out with the shipping. We will be focusing on many more card ideas and will continue to have many samples of new designs in both scrapbooking and stamping and crossing stamping and scrapping into each other. The possibilities are endless, my staff are excited over everything they see and anyone who has visited the store knows how talented they are.
Sue is going to have a granddaughter in the summer so look out for her girly scrapbook pages (to date it's been all about boys). She is extremely excited. Myself, I truly think Shawna will have a boy (just a hunch) so the girly pages I currently do will take a bit of a back seat. Brenda is building a house and is taking pictures of different stages so her pages will take on a new look. She just came back from Disneyworld so look for those kind of pages. Janice has been making cards for her daughter to sell in Toronto and her designs have added scrapbook paper to her cards so this is another new look for the store.
National Scrapbook day is May 3rd. so I will be sending emails out to our 3 "S" members to invite them to enjoy a day of scrapping or stamping, enjoying
pizza and door prizes. If I don't get a good response I will put the invitation out in a newsflash for other customers to enjoy the day.
Although I am not attending Scrapfest as a vendor on April 11th and 12th I am going to the Kitchener show with some good friends, taking some classes, just look over the convention AND DO SOME RELAXING. Can't wait to be on the other side of the fence for a change and enjoy a weekend away.
Creating Keepsake is having their annual Buffalo Convention on May 30th and 31st. I will not have a booth there as it's a big hassle to take product across the border but Brenda and I are planning a presence there to help out in classes or crops. Things aren't settled yet but we will be donating to goody bags and giving some door prizes. We will also be selling passes to the vendors fare at a good price. Come and get your ticket and information at Stamplicity...it's a
great show!!!
Janice and I belong to the Hamilton Calligraphy Guild and have been members for many years now. Every other year they put on a great all day sampler with classes and a vendors fare in the evening. I will have a booth there and will be teaching a Pergamano class. Here is the website if you are interested in this event on April 26th this year. www.hamiltoncalligraphyguild.com It's a fun day!!!
I still have a good sale on many products for 50% discount and will continue to reduce items as other new items come in. There are some great gift ideas such as clocks, picture boxes, etc for you to decorate. There are some beautiful albums like Mickey Mouse and others on discount as well, alphabet, chipboard, punches and stamps plus embellishments. I think I've covered all the news for now. To keep informed of the Stamp Of the Month and Monthly Demo Deals visit our site often. I am always putting
up new pages and cards to help your creative juices flow. Please bring in any albums or any projects you have completed, we love to put our customers designs up on our site to give visitors different ideas.
Happy Spring to all of you from all the staff. I leave you with another favourite part of this newsletter..
