STAMPLICITY'S 4TH QUARTER NEWSLETTER FOR 2011
ON THE PERSONAL SIDE
What a busy , eventful summer I have had. On the positive side my step-daughter is doing extremely well and her cancer has not grown or spread. She has gone back to teaching part time and we are hopeful that everything will remain the same. She is an amazing woman, very optimistic and we are so very proud of her. Unfortunately I received some bad news regarding a dear friend of mine who I have know for nearly 30 years. Karen has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig disease and it is progressing very fast. She is only 57 and my free time is to be there for her in any way I can.
SUMMARY OF OUR FALL FLING
It's always a sigh of relief when our event is over due to all the work involved. As in past years we had a lot of fun and are pleased with the positive comments we received with the make and takes, goody bags, door prizes, treats and meals. We had a garage sale on Sat. and played Bingo on Sunday and in the end we raised $280.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Thanks to all the ladies for your generosity. Pictures are on the website.
WHAT'S NEW IN THE STORE
The store continues to change month by month with new products and techniques to be investigated and pursued. We have all the new Perfect Pearl Mist and Powders in stock as well as the snow cap Alcohol Ink and Picket Fence distress Stain. Viva Décor Pearl Pens are a big hit as they embellish cards and pages so well. They produce a perfectly round dome shape without leaving that "nipple"on the top and the colours are great.
The new spellbinders that have arrived are amazing and we are only waiting for a few more. The Sizzix Christmas embossing folders are the best out yet and youll see many of them used in our future classes. Tim Holtz has just released a Limited Edition Autumn Distress Ink set. There are 3 in the set, amazing colours and our first shipment is almost gone but another order is on the way. Visit the store to see these amazing ink pads. Please be aware that when the next shipment is gone I cannot get any more. The Christmas scrapbook paper we now have in the store is truly we think the best that is on the market. Bo Bunny leads the pack I think, although the new line we have for the 4th quarter features papers from My Mind's Eye are lovely.
Although there are many of the UK embossing folders now in the store we are impatiently waiting for all the Christmas ones. Once they arrive we will be holding our November classes and using many of them for our designs. Right now we have a great line up of October Christmas classes that will be on our site within the next week along with a great incentive to sign up for these amazing classes.
One of the most exciting products that we will have in our store by the time you read this is Cheery Line Designs.
The dies manufactured by Dies Direct for Cheery Lynn are no different than the dies offered by Spellbindersor Quickutz. Cheery Lynn has tested several table top die cutting devices and ranks the Sizzix "Big Shotas their number one choice of die cutters. Next is the "Cuttlebug" followed by the Spellbinders "Wizard. Quickutz "Revolution"works well for smaller dies while the Quickutz "Epic"works well for thin dies. They do NOT recommend the "Epic" for embossing with their metal dies. Their testing of the "Epic" and creating dramatic embossing patterns was disappointing in that the main plastic gear broke. Perhaps Quickutz will switch to metal gears and improve this machine. The Revolution is too small for their A2 sized embossing plates.
Cheery Lynn dies cut out easily in your Cuttlebug, Bigshot or Vagabond die cutting machine although for best results it is recommended that you use the new S114 Cuttlehug Plate Adapter.
HOT TIP : Due to the complexity of the designs the best way to cut these is with a piece of wax paper placed between the die & your cardstock. Before removing your paper check that the design is completely cut. If not completely cut, rotate your die and put through your machine again.
We have summarized the sandwich required for the most popular machines on the market.

WHAT'S COMING IN THE FUTURE
Besides waiting for the embossing folders, Tims Holtz Christmas dies and the Christmas spellbinders its hard to say what products we will be pursing. Brenda and I are attending a convention in Texas in mid October and that will certainly give us some idea of what products we want to bring in. We have a full 4 days of classes lined up.
”We R Memory Keepers” are bringing out a new product called Sew Ribbon and we expect our pre-order to arrive the 1st part of October. Well have classes on this new product.
Our Sweet Deal for October will feature a Canadian Company called Harmoine Check the site for information on that company. You have until Sept 30th to take advantage of getting 25% discount on any "Printwork" stamps. When youre on the site check out our Sweet monthly Deals for scrap bookers. The Quick Quotes kits we offer are great to get some quick scrap booking done. I have gotten so many of my pages done just by completing the monthly kits throughout the year.
As well as the Autumn Limited Edition distress ink set just released, we have just heard from Ranger that there will be another 3 ink pad set available November 1st called the Christmas Limited Edition line. We have put in our pre-order for that as well and when they are gone that's it. If you love your distress inks don't hesitate to call the store to put your order in.
We will be starting quite a few new initiatives in the beginning of 2012. Be sure to read all future newsflashes to be aware of the changes we will be implementing.
TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
1. If you take some embossing powder and mix an equal amount of flitter into it, you can make your image glitter without the use of glue.
2. If you're having trouble getting a new clear stamp off the acrylic or plastic sheet it came on, warm up the back a bit in a corner with your hand, you could then raise the corner and huff under the stamp.
3. Do you sometimes find that the only paper you have that's a perfect color for your project is a heavily textured cardstock that won't stamp well? Or that your beautiful backgrounds prepared with shaving cream or other wet techniques leave the paper with a slightly roughened texture that defies a sharp stamped image? Try running textured cardstock through your Cuttlebug before stamping as it will almost completely smooth out the texture. Run it through twice, turning the paper ninety degrees before the second pass. It takes a bit of experimenting to get the right pressure for the thickness of your paper or cardstock but shaving cream or watercoloured background comes out with a silky smooth, almost glossy texture.....Allison MacKay
4. Here is a good tip on gluing cards and sending them through the mail. Don't use glue sticks or cheap double-stick tape. The glue can freeze in the winter and the lovely card you took so much time with, will be a puzzle the recipient will have to put together to enjoy.
5. To remove bits left on your Cricut mat, as soon as you finish cutting, use a lint roller to remove about 90% of the waste.
6. Birthday Card Planning...Make a list of names, then on the left side of the paper the date of the event and on the right side the day it has to be mailed. Post it right above your stamping table. Run a red line through the name so you know it's done. Then put them in the order of when they are to be mailed in a coil letter holder. You can then check it each day to make sure they get out on time. If the majority of the cards you make are a standard size, address the envelopes ahead as well.
With all that is taking place you can be assured I will keep everyone up to date with newsflashes. There will be lots to share once we return from Texas. Stay tuned.
